Outstanding harbor view, yummy fresh seafood, interior decor is old and funky but it feels like you are on vacation. I would definitely go back. Also a nice location to take a stroll along the harbor and watch beautiful sunset. I always think it feels good to support a local owner instead of big chain type restaurant.

The ABC's of Harbor Hut Angry staff Bad vibe Crappy food Drinks suck. Enough said Forget about this place. (Lil Hut is good though, don't be confused)

We love the hut! Never had the food, but the bar is nice and has a great view. We never miss a chance to come here when we are in Morro Bay. This last time we saw Otters! This place is one to check off the list if you are trying to hit all the Tiki bars on the west coast. Careful though, two tiki drinks = a lot of booze. Best to walk back to the hotel.

Very good clam chowder and fish and chips. Maybe even the best chowder in town, no joke. Very good and underrated in my opinion. This and Giovanni's are my go to when I'm in Morro Bay

This place is not worth going to. The preparation of the frozen seafood is not good. It is not really poisonous but, I would never eat here again.

Great view but bad food. Not usually that picky at all but it was pretty poor. Calamari and clam chowder was good! Tuna clipper, seafood crepe, seafood croissant and lobster ravioli all left ALOT to be desired. Waitress didn't want to be there and treated us poorly.

The Harbor Hut is beyond it's prime - it is living on its past. At the bar our appetizers (calamari and mushrooms) were burnt. The first order came out wrong (crab cakes instead of mushrooms), and the bar tender was not attentive. The place could do with a cleaning. Manager/owner need to give the bar some personal attention.

So I finally came around to write a review about this place, and it was possibly the worst dining I've ever experienced. Upon walking in we were greeted by a woman and sat at a table near the window. Now, this is where it got bad, so I noticed there was a dog (a service dog mind you) sitting on one of the seats. I don't care if you've got a service dog but I'd rather not sit next to one while I'm eating. So, my partner and I decided to ask one of the servers if we could change spots if it wasn't too much trouble. He rolled his eyes at us THEN proceeded to approach the couple with the service dog and give them all the attention. I didn't seem too bothered and turned the other way. BUT THEN he decides to be completely rude to us about what food we were ordering and just being a complete smart ass! So finally my partner was getting sick of it and decided to approach the server, needless to say it didn't end well. So we went to the cracked crab instead and that food/service was amazing! Do not waste your time here. Crap food/crap service blah!!!

One of the best tasting Chowders on the west coast.....NOT potato soup...lots and lots of Clams!!! well seasoned. Steak and Seafood are paired wonderfully together...Meats are first rate... everything was cooked correctly.

First time going here and it was great! It is on the pricey side though. I had there special which was fresh local caught salmon stuffed with crab and shrimp with a dill cream sauce. Great entree all around. My boyfriend had the ahi tuna, which was good and his dad had the seafood fettuccine, which had huge chunks of all kinds of seafood. Everyone enjoyed there meal. Just be ready to spend money while you are there.

If I could give zero stars I would. The host that seated us was a total ass to us. After waiting 15 plus minutes with no one coming to greet us or take our drink order we walked out. Well on the way out we let the Host know why we were leaving and he started laughing at us, even rolling his eyes at us. Wow way to be an adult and that's really horrible customer service.

We went here cause I was wanting a steak. So, we walk in and was very nice and we got to seat by th windowand watch the ocean. Yeah, probably wondering why I wanted steak in area where fresh seafoods is sold. Well, it just happen that i wanted one but I still had my share of seafoods. YUMMY! we order our food, the clam chowder had a unsual taste to it, not something i would eat again. My steak was not cooked the way I wanted, but the waste part was my friend fish and chip. The fish taste like came out of a freezeror it was old. We told the waitess and she stated that she serviced three of fish and chip dinner to other people and they love it. Iit could be the fact that you gotten tail of the fish, which sound really stupid. Basically, we were not happy with the meal. The waitress charge us for the salad, clam chowder that came with meal and drinks, which I don't believe that we should had paid for something that wasn't good. Oh well! I ask for the manager and guess what the waitress was the manager. She didn't care, which is sad. If can give "zero", i would have.

After finally taking the opportunity to eat at this establishment iam happy to pass on the word of it being a good experience. I appreciated even the small details. Waiting for our appetizer we munched on some warm tasty bread.we ordered the oysters imperial..delicious and split the mixed seafood plate which was on special. Our entree was cooked wonderfully..the wait staff was friendly and needless to say we had no room for dessert.the prices were a little more than we would choose for a weekday dinner but overall we had a nice experience and would return again.

Chowder was good. And bread was great. Unfortunately that's about all I can say. Waited 25 mins on a Friday night for group of 5 at 730. Not too bad for no reservation However, had to flag down service just to get water after 10 mins of sitting. Took another 10 mins before order was taken. The bread was good, a sweet almost jalapeño bread and good garlic butter spread was able to bide the time while waiting for the rest of the order. Carb cakes had one side burnt and meh-okay at best The chowder, like the other reviews, was very good. Only reason it got 2 stars. Not sure was worth the wait though, maybe if they had mentioned the drink or dinner specials??? Just sayin I ordered the seared ahi tuna salad. The vinaigrette dressing was more vinegar than anything else. Seared means light cooked mostly raw. This was a 3/4" wide slice of tuna that had less than a quarter of it raw. Ruined what would have been a good piece of fish The family ordered calamari and fixings. Nothing stellar to report there. I think Denny's makes a comparable dish. Price was okay for the area and a bit much for sub par service and food. Too bad, view is great and some of the food has good potential. Too bad service and most of the food just lousy.

Bad experience! Went into the bar area to watch a football game. Wife ordered a drink and I joined her a few minutes later. We were then told we "had to make it a quick one" because there was a private party coming in. We weren't told this when we walked in. This is TABOO in the restaurant business and not acceptable!! So long Harbor Hut! Don't need ya! Don't want ya! AVOID this place!!

We almost didn't go in because of the bad reviews. Glad we tried it. Window table, great view, service was good, food was good. Great bread! We thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't see any of the rudeness mentioned in reviews (the guy seating us wasn't terribly friendly, but our server was great). Food was tasty, not "lackluster" as noted in some reviews. Wasn't spectacular, but certainly good. Worth 4 stars.

  • Raeanne J.

I went here last night with my "active" 2 year old. The staff was very accommodating and the host even parked our stroller near his desk and kept and eye on it. My seafood salad was very fresh and my mother's clam chowder was filled to the brim with clams. I have eaten at the lil hut a million times, but this was my first time inside and it was a nice experience.

Whomever gives this place more than 1 star has no idea what real food tastes like. And the 5 stars for best clam chowder - are you kidding? Worst place to eat(can't even call it a restaurant) that I've ever been too. Tough and dry fish-n-chips, over salted, over seasoned, no clams chowder. Absolutely FILTHY establishment that should be shut down - FLYS everywhere!!! Anyone who continues to eat here must be local die-hards who feel sorry for the place. Enough said....

We entered a nearly empty restaurant through the bar and sat down at a four top near the window with my mom in a wheelchair. Apparently we didn't enter through the correct front door. The manager approached and asked in a total smart ass way.... Are you staying for dinner? We replied, yes that was our plan. After sitting another 10 min, a server showed up and was also loaded with attitude. Instead of just shifting on the fly, and accommodating four dinner guests who had apparently committed a mortal sin in a nearly empty restaurant, they chose to make it a pissing contest. No problem. You win. We are having dinner down the street where we were greeted warmly. Some folks are just in the wrong business.

Excellent friendly service Food was hot fresh and flavorful Excellent Ocean views Ignore bad reviews. My favorites, calamari Steak and Seafood

  • M. K.

Wow, the view is spectacular, but don't expect much more. The wine glasses were filthy! When we told the waiter he just said, "really?" The food was obviously frozen and reheated. It was gross; no flavor. Do not eat here. I repeat, do not eat here. It is nasty! 0 stars!

Just ok. My husband were looking for a good seafood restraunt we arrived and asked for a window seat. Which we were given little did we know that the sun would be blaring on us and no air conditioner could be felt. We roasted thru dinner. I ordered shrimp scampi . What I received were. 5 shrimp with butter to dip them in with capers on one of the shrimp very disappointing. At the end of our meal we heard another waiter telling that table what the specials were. They sounded better that what we were eating. I would not go back

Best chowder/ bread bowl and fish and chips in Morro Bay! Growing up in the area I've been to almost every seafood restaurant along the bay, now that I'm away Harbor Hut is the only place I desire to go to on my trips back home. Food, service, atmosphere, everything's always on point. I love how all their window seats give you a beautiful view of the harbor and rock. hen you enter the restaurant you're immediately welcomed into an old fashion tiki atmosphere, the ambiance is warm and slightly romantic it almost feels like a mini vacation, great place for dates. FOOD! I've been eating here ever since they opened in 2011, there isn't a dish on the menu that I can complain about. Great selection on the drink menu as well. What gives Harbor hut a 5 out of 5 for me is that right out side the have a small take out shack (little hut). Harbor hut is great for a nice sit down meal, but if you just want something quick to go you have a more convenient option. Same price, same quality, just faster service. This will forever be my hometown go to :)

I have never been so insulted by spending too long finishing dinner. The woman, possibly owner, should be closed down for being such a rude human being. I am sorry her life requires her to abuse customers who eat for more than 1 hour and leave a 20% tip. The food quality certainly did not warrant the abuse. We will not return and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone who does not want to be abused. If, on the other hand, you want to be abused for eating a mediocre dinner this may be the place for you..

Great place, bayside view and good food. We had the beer battered fish n chips, which were delicous. We also had a chicken ceasar salad. This was great too and it came with sinful garlic bread. Good coffee...not too weak. Staff friendly. we were here for lunch

  • Erik P.

I don't think the low reviews are giving a good impression for this place. I have chosen to dine here several times over the last 5 or 6 years. It's lower key from the busier part of the embarcadero and they do a fine job. The clam chowder is meaty with clams. The fish and chips are the closest thing I have seen to what I had in Scotland. Most places in the US use a hideous thick beer batter. This place uses a nice thin batter. I don't give it the 5 stars only because it's not top top end. But I like the views of the bay and the friendly service and good food. It's a basic good place and I will continue to return. If I want 5 star I will head to nearby Windows on the Water but I still really like this place.

My family loves this place. We have been coming here for years. Great food, drinks, service and view. We usually get the same waitress, and we think she is great!

Food was not good, table was sticky and service marginal. Stay away from this one, we took one for the team.

Absolutely the worst seafood meal we've had in a long while. Returned one entree to the kitchen, the other two (different) entrees were almost as bad. Service not great either and it wasn't because they were busy.

Stopped here for a bite to eat during the harbor festival. Lounge area was full of festival goers enjoying the warm afternoon (are we talking about mb??? Yes we are!!!!!) Restaurant was busy but it only took about 10 mins to be seated. Started with the ultimate mail tai and a shark bite. The mai tai was the star between the two (and a 23 oz glass). The shark bite seem to be something I could make at home with rum and pineapple juice with a splash of grenadine. Stick with the mai tai. Next came the sandwiches. One was a crab salad on sourdough with the other the board special of calamari steak. The crab salad was full of crab chunks and not too heavy on the mayo. The calamari was broiled with the right amount of char and on a nice buttery onion bun. Both came with fries. Fries were fries. Nothing special. I had also ordered bbq oysters but the server forgot to put the order in to the kicthen so they never arrived. Both meals are what we expected not too, much not too little. Based on the meals and drinks the cost was a little pricey. But you can't beat the view. I was given the money seat facing the bay. We had a 180 degree view from morro rock to the sand spit to the back bay all the way to Montana de oro. And with the clear warm off shore condition you could see it all. I would recommend this restaurant but to be honest with all of the choices here in MB I would be hard pressed to return.

Horrible food. I ordered the "fisherman's platter" sounds great right? Like a big plate of seafood... Nope. It had 1 shrimp, 1TINY scallop, two teeny tiny oysters, a small curled up dry cod all on a bed of thin flavorless French fries. I asked the server if there was a mistake, he said nope. I felt slapped in the face. Maybe the flavor is so good that it makes up for this joke... No, no it wasn't good at all. The fish and scallop were so dry. The flavor was bland and stomach turning. (It cost just under 20 dollars (!) for this mess) My mother ordered the chicken, she said the veggies on the side were OK, the chicken not so much. This place should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of people. The place is so inviting and the vibe draws in the tourists but I can't imagine a local ever coming back. I won't. Ever ever ever. One really nice thing... The view from the windows, so I guess you pay for the atmosphere not the food. Don't go if you're hungry, only go if you like looking out a window.

Four of us were here for dinner on a recent weeknight. The restaurant was half full and we were seated promptly by the window with a nice view of the harbor. Our server seemed pretty new. We asked which fish were fresh and he said he didn't know and didn't offer to ask. We asked for olive oil on the side for a salad dressing and he said he couldn't do it. (We asked another waiter who said it was not a problem at all and took care of it.) He wasn't mean, just unknowledgeable about providing decent service. The food wasn't too bad -- the jambalaya was ok, the cobb salad pretty small, the ahi tasted old -- but once you consider the prices you'll feel like you paid too much for a so-so meal. We've had several dinners in San Luis Obispo that were much better for 40% less. This is my first Yelp restaurant review of less than 3 stars, and truthfully 2 stars is generous. There are several choices on the Morro Bay waterfront and while I haven't tried them, I've got to believe that you can do better.

My dad was visiting from out of town and wanted good seafood that wasn't fried, so naturally, with my wife and I being locals, we took him to Dockside. Unfortunately the wait was a bit too long for him to bare so we walked to (ugh) Harbor Hut or as it's known locally, Horrible Rut. There was a bit of a wait here too but we decided to hang out in the bar till our name was called. I got an IPA, the wife got water (no lemon requested but got it anyway) and Pops requested the wine menu. The wine menu came with my beer and her water, but as it turns out Dad didn't need it because we never saw her again. When I needed another beer I went to the bar to order it and spoke to the tender about the lack of service. He seemed genuinely concerned but didn't bother to come out from behind the bar (it wasn't that busy) to take Dad's order, but he did pour me my beer and charge me full price (darn it). Eventually a table opened up and we were escorted to our booth. Trevor was our server and he was great! Very attentive but not TOO attentive if you get my drift. Pops got the Sole Almondine and pronounced, 'Now THAT'S some seafood.' I had the shrimp and andouille sausage jambalaya and enjoyed it almost as much the jambalaya at Bon Temps. My Wifey had the Angel Hair Pasta and a salad and managed to finish most of it. Breaking it down it goes something like this: Food - 4 Drink service - 1 Food service - 5 Honestly folks the only time my wife and I eat here is if somebody else wants to. That's due mainly to 1) the price of the meal vs. the portion and 2) we're not real big fans of the guy that owns it. The crappy bar service was a new wrinkle and just one more reason to go somewhere else.

Love this place! I would give 5 but the price is a little high for some of the portions.

Excellent service but the dinners were lackluster. Best part was the salad. We were nervous when the girl at another table found a hair in her salad. We contemplated about leaving then but, decided to stay. The Halibut was overcooked, the shrimps were rubbery, and the scallops tasted odd. My wife ordered pasta and said it was tangy tasting. She did not feel well afterwards. The calamari was pretty good so, for that I'll give it two stars. This place used to be great years ago. We decided we are done with this place

I was kind of dreading going to the Harbor Hut after reading all the bad reviews, but I'm glad we did. We got seated right away and everyone was sincerely friendly (not like they were afraid of another horrible yelp). The view was the same gorgeous view you can get at every restaurant along the embarcadero. The bar was great--filled with the kind of small town people that looked like they had lived in Morro Bay all their lives. The people watching was so much fun that we kept forgetting about the wonderful panorama of the bay!! Anyway, the drinks were good, strong, and cheap (hence, the crowd at the bar) and the food was good. Great bread and a great house salad came with the meal. The fish was okay. I've had better, but it was saved by the rest of the meal. I'd definitely go back.

Harbor Hut holds a special place in my heart because it is the place my fiancé proposed to me, and theres a reason for that! the ambiance at night is so romantic right by the water and the food there is amazing. I am a huge fan of the halibut picatta, and the steaks there are even better then AJ Spurs or Madonna. Trust me, it hurts me to say that because those are two of my absolute favorite restaurants. The fish and chips is soo good, and every time I go there the food is always consistently the same and delicious! The only bummer is that when my fiancé proposed to me, the staff did really even notice or care and most places would give champagne or take a picture, and they didn't do either.

  • Valerie Z.

We LOVE this place! Beautiful view from everywhere. They have many good dishes and good bread. My special favorites are their spinach salad, clam strips (they use a superior clam to start with), and more. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Perfect location! I live in the area and usually go about once a month.

The service and fish and chips were better at The Hungry Fisherman. Came here for lunch and waited a good 5+ minutes for someone to come to the front to greet/seat us. When the lady came, she was a little less than welcoming, oh well.. Sat down by the window which was cool. The view was pretty and the place was clean. Our waiter was nice but I did regret asking for a minute to decide what to order because my minute turned to 10, anyway, my plus one and I each ordered the small order of fish and chips and it was OK. It came with two pieces of fried fish, some seasoned fries, and a small side of coleslaw. The fish was good, and so were the fries, the coleslaw on the other hand was on the weird side. Not my fav. I would recommend the Hungry Fisherman if you're looking for a better deal/better overall experience! Their fish & chips dish comes with more fish and it costs less! Aside from the view, I don't know if there is anything here that would make me want to come back.

Definitely worth a try! We love it and never disappointed! My husband and I live here in Morro Bay and we love Harbor Hut! Both sides of our family always come here when they come to town. We have never had a bad meal. Great fish! Pesto Pasta (usually offered on the dinner menu) is very yummy! The Sole Almondine fish dinner is excellent! We've had the lobster dinner which is very yummy as well! We've usually always had great service, but once or twice, and it did lack just SLIGHTLY. However, we both were servers when we were younger and we know how busy it can get. We have never been disrespected or had bad service here, it can just be a little slow but nothing that can't be fixed with some more of their delicious bread or house wine.

My husband and I have been here numerous times, and we love it. It's a must-do every time we go to Morro Bay. (I'm shocked that it has such a low rating!) The old-school Tiki atmosphere makes us feel like we're on vacation (which we are). I admit that the service could be a bit friendlier, but it has always been attentive. The food has always been fantastic. Two things that are especially outstanding are the escargot and the halibut piccata. (If you like fish, you MUST order the halibut piccata!) Their clam chowder is excellent too--it has big chunks of clam in it. Bonus: They give you an Andes mint at the end of the meal! I can hardly wait to go back.

Wow, we ordered a Bucket O' fish and a piece came with a long black hair deep fried with the batter. It was so disgusting. We took it up to the counter and they at first tried to say "I don't see it" but this piece was thick, dark and about 4 inches long with fried batter adhered to it and the hair adhered to the fish batter. So they replaced it with a new piece of fish. That's it. No apologies, no refund or credit or anything. Disgusting!

While visiting this fine coastal town for the Avocado and Margarita Festival which was fun and beautiful day here, but back to the H.H. My bride and I came up Friday and ate here as we have done for a number of years. As usual she pans the seafood and salads up while I had the Clam and Shrimp Linguine, this is comfort food to me! I od'd on the stuff. Mmmmm. Move up a day and after the festival we are back with my Bro and his Mrs, she had the Scampi but wasn't real happy as it was dry. My Bro and I had the special of Salmon stuffed with shrimp and crab and my honey.... not seafood. : ) We'll be back the next time through and we're off to Laughlin tomorrow! Don't ask!

Brought people from Florida who like good fish and chips. Service was semi-okay, but snarky. Waitress more interested in her own agenda than customers. I ordered a Chinese Chicken Salad without Chinese wonton noodles. Repeated the request several time. order arrived WITH wonton noodles and the response was, "You want me to get you a plain salad?" Ummm, no I wanted what I ordered MINUS the wontons. I was dismissed, charged full price and even wrote a note to the manager who scoffed at me. NO ONE should patronize this place unless they are want bad service, poor food and disrespect. Management does not seem to care if costumers are happy. Patronize them if you don't care about the quality of your food or how you are treated.

You would think that being right on the coast there would be plenty of good seafood but it's just not the case around here. I wouldn't say this place is terrible; it's just par for the course, which is very unexceptional. If you do happen to drop in to the Harbor Hut I do recommend the crab cakes, they are very good! Also the service was great in my opinion. I give it 3 stars for good service and tasty crab cakes :)

This was the worst experience of our lives. The presumed manager (somewhat tall in height; short, thinning, grey/white hair; pudgy, bloated, red (intoxicated?) face) was on a power trip, and absolutely belittled our group AND was heard berating another customer in line (with that 'How could you be SO stupid?' tone so commonly possessed by little 'men'--the lady was simply asking if he could estimate the wait time). This was our pre-wedding dinner, with about a dozen adults in our party (the bill was about $600). We're a quiet bunch with basic expectations. We solemnly choked our food down with great difficulty, struggling to swallow despite the lumps in our throats caused by such a pathetic individual ruining what was supposed to be a very special night. Please, on principle alone, do not bring your business here. Also, the many poor reviews below concerning food quality/taste are absolutely accurate--just a terrible place all around. I wish I could give zero stars...

Husband and I stopped here for dinner last night. Clam chowder was Yum. Bread they brought to table was really good kind of a soda bread with hints of jalepeno but not hot. Spinach salad was tasty. Dinner included salad so kept price down. I had sole almandine. Very lite but a bit eggy for my taste. Hubbie had calamari steak which was well cooked not overdone. We enjoyed the evening, much quieter than down the street. Nice evening.

My wife And I arrived at 6:30 Monday we were met with a tall young man and asked to set at a open window table at the window he informed us that table was saved a party of 4 and set us at a table with my back to the ocean! I asked about 10 other open tables. Are first mistake we should have departed. Next my wife ordered a bottle of wine and our food? My wife ordered Scampi I ordered fish stew with all the good stuff from the sea! Wife got over cooked small shrimp and I received a bowel of week flavorless broth and very low grade fish not much of the good stuff! We left with the table we requested was empty as we're most of the room. I will not return

Service and Spectacular Food and View! As a tourist, I stopped in to see if NBA playoffs were on - and they were. The attractive, professional bartender Shawn greeted me and made me feel like I was "at home", not a first-timer. Also meeting the owner Troy, I learned that this venue had been around since 1951, 3 generations of family ownership - must be good - and it was. I enjoyed perfectly chilled wine, comfortable bar seating, fantastic view to the bay and rock and 6 of the best oysters ever. The variety of appetizers includes escargot fixed "with a twist" that I'll have to try when I visit the area again. Actually I returned the next evening and had the same wonderful service from Shawn. I look forward to returning VERY soon!

Came here for the first time a couple of months ago and ended up eating here several times during my trip to Morro Bay. The service and food are good (I especially like the beer battered fish and chips) and if you can get a window seat it's great to have dinner there and enjoy watching the sea otters, seals and the sunset, Going back to Morro Bay the end of June and will be going back here for sure.

We were still hungry after eating Tognazzinis oysters and salad, but decided to settle for just a drink here. Everything on the menu seemed overpriced. The 23oz $12 drink special was good. We got the blue hawaiian, it was good but don't think it was worth $12, maybe $10. The place looked dead inside and the decor was a tad bit tacky. Nice waitress though!

First time here. Friend recommended. Greeted and seated immediately. Beautiful view or Morro Bay and Morrow Rock. Ordered crab sandwich. It was amazing. Big and fresh. Seasoned fries were good too. Food came very fast. Service was prompt and attentive. Reasonable prices. All good. I would return and recommend to friends and family!

The place looked a little fishy (pun intended), but the food was great! Things were so good my wife and I were sharing our meals: Clam chowder, Lobster ravioli, Filet of sole, Mashed potatoes, Rolls.

Anther great meal and great service. The blackened red snapper is the best!!! Always yummy rice and vegies and the hot bread with herb butter is one of the best I have ever had. Great view on the harbor and cute tropical ambiance. Good desserts also. Try it - you'll like it.

I GOT DRUNK WITH Vintage SURFERS! Ok, I only had drinks here, and some escargot, I liked it. Great drink service. Good times. Good time. I WANT TO GO BACK when we visit again. :D I love you! Love you so much!

The food is gross. That's just how it is. The service is fine, and over the years I enjoyed seeing the cat that hangs around and in the restaurant, but I just couldn't get over the shoddy food that in no way merited the pricing. Their seafood pasta was consistently cold. The only reason we continued to go was it was one of the few restaurants that served escargot. But even that isn't worth it. In an area filled to the brim with seafood restaurants, you can't afford to serve mediocre seafood. Skip this place.

The generally low ratings for "The Harbor Hut" are well-deserved, but our service when we were here last week was better than most reviewers describe. This was probably my third visit over the past few years, and had it not been that it was a friend's birthday, I'd have been fine with skipping it. He'd been here recently and had the steak and scampi special and thought that the steak was the best in Morro Bay. I took him at his word and was disappointed -- mainly at the price when I got the bill. In fairness, the steak was done exactly as I requested and was appropriately flavorful as a rib-eye should be. More fat than I like, but tasty. A few small shrimp on a stick is hardly my expectation of "scampi." One of our party asked for the same steak to be well-done and it came out medium (even after specifically saying "no pink in the middle") but was taken back and made almost well-done. A minor point, but the salad had enough vinegar and oil on it for a half-dozen salads, but it had plenty of bacon bits. The waitress was friendly, and service was speedy -- probably because there were not many diners on a mid-week evening. After-dinner decaf was fresh-made and was very good, and the refills came without prompting. My problem was the $35.95 for the steak and scampi. It was maybe a $20 or $25 dinner. At that price, I'd give three stars.

Disappointment. Years of a tradition of eating at Harbor Hut abruptly came to a halt yesterday afternoon. It started with a really bad Margarita and progressed to a sole almondine covered in burnt (not just browned but burnt) slivered almonds. I was surprised that a cook would send it out, and shocked that a waitress would bring it to the table. She never returned to the table to ask how our food was. The five inch long two inch high pile of burnt almonds may have kept her away. She did have the audacity of asking me if I would like a box to take home the remainder of my food. I wondered why this popular restaurant only had a couple of dinners. From the cold receptionist to the unedible food, I finally understood. Dont know if the restaurant has changed hands, but my family and I have eaten our last meal there. Would suggest you get Willie from Restaurant Stakeout to come and clue you guys in on how to run a restaurant and hire good chefs.

We were contemplating the great American Fish Co or here but decided on trying a place new to us but are just sad we did at this point and wished we would have just eaten at AFCo. The inside in confusing as it seems they were trying for a maritime/ tiki theme but it has a slightly tacky to me and then there is the "classy" joint feel with their place setting, battery operated candles and cloth napkins. The music was the most confusing and irritating to me. Ranging from the Beach boys, to Bruddha Iz and other really weird music combos. The waiter was very nice. He tried really hard and did miss a few things like taking empty dishes off in a timely manner and a few condiments but he was nice and we did have a few special requests that were met with pleasure. After a few minutes of sitting we were greated with a few tasty , warm, crusty rolls with herbed butter that were quite good. We ordered appetizers of the king crab cakes. They were eh. I have had much better. The cakes were cooked well and slightly crispy but the pattie itself left a lot to be desired. Not enough flavor in it. While the crab had a nice , slightly sweet flavor on it's own and maybe they wanted it that way but when I have crab cakes I like the herbs with it like dill or others. It had a nice sauce to go along with it to help flavor but I prefer the flavor in the cake itself not relied on by a sauce. My partner got a sirloin with scampi shrimp and I got these Sole Almondine. Her steak was very good, cooked to a perfect medium rare. We really like to douse our streaks in A1 because that stuff is amazing and addicting but this steak had a great flavor of its own. Not much seasoning but it was a great cut so the flavor of the meat itself really stoof out and it was quite good. The scampi shrimp was cooked okay just a tiny but more and they would have been overcooked. My sole, frankly sucked. It was described as coated with a light batter, pan cooked with a butter sauce. This thing was truly swimming in butter sauce. It was just gross. Too too much butter. The fish's batter was saturated with butter and within just a minute of having it on my plate the batter was soft and squishy. It was just way too much butter. How could they think it could be good this way. I honestly felt my heart starting to beat stronger with all the saturated fat and sodium I was unwitingly assaulted with by my fish. The cut of fish did not taste good either. The tarter sauce was quite good but I've seriously had a better Talapia at Denny's than the Sole here. To their credit their mashed potatoes were very good (and buttery) and If I ever went back (ie a friend really wanted to go and I had not choice in the matter) I would get the Potatoe Leek soup. It was the highlight of the dish that I had. Very good soup. Overall I really don't think I will be going here again. The plate were overpriced for the quality and flavor. The service was just okay but they did try. The food was mostly blah and I guess when a waiter comes to your table and sees you still have most of your main entree on the plate they should ask if everything was okay. Just my opinion and it is what I would do if I had a job like that. So unless potatoe leek soup is on the menu tonight I would go with Gorton's frozen fish sticks.

Stay AWAY. The fish was rancid. Chicken tasted like it was frozen for years. No flavor on anything. The chowder was more starch than clams or broth or even vegetables. Maybe stop in for drinks and look at the view for 2 mins. You will have a better meal at McDonalds and order the Filet Fish.

We were driving down the PCH to Pismo Beach and decided to get a light snack. I should say I am an absolute seafood snob. The mesquite grilled oysters were awesome (don't need to do much with quality ingredients). The clam chowder had few if any potatoes and LOTSA clams. To top it all off, the warm sourdough rolls were great with the herb butter. I can't give it more than 4 stars though without trying a descent meal.

Normally, I wouldn't waste my time writing a review of this place. However, yesterday someone(hmmm... any guesses?) spammed Yelp with 7 fake five star reviews by 7 newly created accounts. Such pathetic desperation inspired me to write this review. Harbor Hut used to have a great reputation. No longer. The fish and chips are greasy and taste frozen. There are so many better places in Morro Bay and Cayucos to eat. Go up the coast a couple of miles and have a much better meal at the charming Schooner's Wharf. It's well worth the drive. Also, you might want to disregard the latest 5 star review, as this was part of the "Fraudulent 7"

Had a late lunch here on our way home to Riverside area from San Simeon, I ordered shrimp cocktail and was expecting regular sized shrimp cocktail and not the nail-sized poor baby shrimp in a cocktail glass that I was served for appetizer. For my entree I ordered the special which is charbroiled Ahi with rice pilaf and mango salsa. The fish was slightly overcook for my taste. The food is nothing spectacular but the view is to die for.

The bartender Nancy is the most rude woman I have ever met. I started out by ordering outside because I had my dog, so I went inside to order my drink, she got it wrong and I tipped her with change and ended up throwing it at my daughter!!! Jesus was a nice man who ended the night pleasant. So that's why I am giving this place 1 star. If there was am option for none I would have chosen none. Go to Giovanni's it's less pricey and the food is delicious.

Sorry Harbor Hut but you have lost it. Used to be our favorite lunch spot but no longer. Maybe you changed your recipe for your clam chowder but it was terrible. As for the fish and chips, the fish was tough and chewy.

First off Id like to say that these guys make a pretty good Bloody Mary. Went there on a date with my bf and the ambiance was perfect. We got a window seat looking over the dock. It was great. We sat in the lounge but had a great server. Young petite girl was very friendly and had big smiles. She was very welcoming. We only ate appetizers and cocktails but I must say their crab cakes are to die for. SO yummy. There was even a little flower girl who came around, and of course my hunny bought me one, but it was just so romantic. We definitely will be back for another date night.

Tried the Harbor Hut based on location and posted menu. Didn't have a Yelp review in hand. Service started slow, had bad feeling. But service picked up, the mixed grill was excellent, bruschetta fantastic, even the garden salad was great. Manager stopped by to say thanks. Perhaps we were there on a good day. Anyway 4 stars for THH today.

What a ridiculous place. Big sign out front stating that they have the best clam chowder on earth. Ok, I'm willing to give it a try. My son and I end up entering the place, stood at the hostess station for 10 minutes while perusing a menu. TEN MINUTES! Finally someone stopped and asked what we wanted? WTF? Where was I standing? I want a table. I looked around as he told me that it was going to be more than 30 minutes for a seat. There were about 12 open tables from what I could tell. Not going back. Customer service like this belongs, well, nowhere!

We came here one late night, and the place was quite empty, its in a very nice setting. It reminded me of Sleepless in Seattle, with the background jazz and the waterfront going on. It took a while for them to take us to the table, which didn't bother me. I like the "slow" atmosphere, it was relaxing. We had some really nice dishes, its been a while, but the crab cakes are absolutely delicious!!! I forgot what else we ordered, but I remember it to be a pleasurable experience. Oh yes, while waiting we had some really nice fresh bread with garlic butter. Not many places offer fresh bread, which isn't the priority, but I really like there attention to small details.

Food here was terrible. Fish tasted old, and rest of food was poorly prepared. The bread was good. Place has fantastic views and decor inside is nice, but this is so with dozens of other places on the Embarcadero that have much better food and service.

I've been frequenting this place for years and they have never disappointed. This week I had their Oysters Franklin, Drunken Bean soup, and Alaskan King Crab legs, followed by a decadent serving of Bananas Foster for dinner. Everything was to die for - most importantly, they serve fresh crab with a wonderful sweet-nutty flavor - and a good amount at that. Highly recommended.

Came into town really craving king crab and after calling two of the other places in the bay, a waiter recommended the harbor hut. Lucky me! This place was incredible. Had a really nice draft beer in a large glass. Ordered my Crab legs with a NY strip. Both were perfect. I sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and talked just the right amount and allowed me to eat my wonderful dinner. I will go again next time I am around the bay!

My first Yelp review of any restaurant ever. Horrible service. I was in a group of 4 plus one 3 year old. It took 10 minutes for anyone to show up at the hosting station to talk to us. The restaurant was half full at around 1pm on a Sunday. The girl at the host told us, "all of our child seats are in use right now...sorry" before I could say hi. I asked, "can you give us an estimate of how long until the next table using one opens up?". Seemed like a reasonable question. With an oddly huge attitude she responded, "No....it'll take as long as it takes." me: "you can't tell me how long until one of the seats open up?.....do you have booster seats?" Her: "They're all being used as well." ....that's it...keeping my composure because I was completely confused and offended by the hostess's attitude and lack of help I let her know we'll be going somewhere else and then she shrugged at me???!! My review is mostly a plea to the owners to move this hostess either into the kitchen or let her go. She lost a hungry party of five that went down the street and will never return to the Harbor Hut.

It was late on Christmas Eve, and to my surprise Harbor Hut was open. However, once inside, all that was being served was booze and wine, because the bartender said the kitchen was closed. To my surprise, a waitress came out and said she said they would serve me some clam chowder, so I had that, and a nice glass of Letitia Pinot. I have to admit that it was the buttered bread and chowder to fill my appetite, but if on past local reviews shows the Harbor Huts food and service has been going downhill, someone is taking note. I liked the soup and did think the service is worth something. Even as a tourist, this place would be worth at least 3 stars. I thought the bartender was kind of nice and I would certainly come back for a proper meal. Certainly rethink fried foods and chip for 2008 and beyond. Its worth mentioning the "Harbor Hut" architecture is really cool. Hard for backyarders to understand, but that Tiki look is tres cool.

Good food, disappointing service. First, the good. My halibut piccata was cooked perfectly, the fish flaky and sweet, the lemon wine sauce exactly as I expected. My husband's Ahi tuna with a mango salsa was also nicely done. Clam chowder was decent, not my favorite, but plenty of clams. My husband enjoyed his spinach salad a lot, plenty of bacon and a tasty dressing. Now the bad. It was a Monday, which I hope explains a lot. Our 10 minute wait for a table turned into 15, until the bar tender asked if we'd been taken care of, and within a couple of minutes we had a table. It was by the window (in a half empty dining room), with a nice view of Morro Rock and the fishing fleet-- at least until a waiter tried to raise the blinds and discovered that ours was broken, leaving the blind stuck all the way down. Our waiter eventually came by to take our order, and once again the wait. It shouldn't take any time to get soup and salad out of the kitchen when they're included with every dinner, but when the table that was had been seated after we had ordered got their soup and salad we flagged our waiter (he was not easy to catch) . "You haven't gotten your soup and salad yet?" Since the waiters were doing all of their own serving I'm not sure how he didn't know. He did warn us that our entrees were nearly ready, and we were finishing the soup and salad as he served them. They were hot, which we'd been worried about, and done perfectly. More waiting when we were finished, and waiting for the check to be picked up. The waiter who broke our shade seemed to be scurrying around a lot too. There were 12-13 tables occupied, mostly by twos and fours, and three waitstaff. Not sure what their problem was, although if we'd checked the reviews here first we might have gone elsewhere. The food we had was quite good, though.

The Harbor Hut USED to be good but over the past year or two its gone down to decent, Ive been eating there since...ever (seeing how I was born and raised in San Luis Obispo) and I have to admit the service has gone downhill. First off they used to serve the steamed clams in a bucket and got your moneys worth (it was a nice bucket, not just some bucket they found on the beach) but now they serve it in some dish and half the shells dont even have the clams in them (which is a rip-off because its $14). As far as the wait staff goes they need to improve on that, last time I was there I barely saw the waiter and when I DID see him, he wasn't attentive. But, its hit and miss with the place, sometimes when you go there its good and sometimes its bad.

We went there on a Saturday night at 7:00 for dinner. The place was full but we had a nice table for 2 at the window right away. Service was wonderful. Very attentive and friendly. Food was great! Huge portions. We should have done without an appetizer because we took half our dinner home. Everything we had was excellant. As far as attire, we saw everything from jeans to slacks on the men and jeans to dresses on the woman. Not a big selection for red wines by the glass, but not a big deal.

Before our long 5 hour drive home we chose this place to have a late lunch. Kinda a musty smell, but it was okay.. We were seated where we asked to be and it took some 10-12 minutes for someone to come over and ask if we wanted to order drinks. It took a while to get those drinks. I finished my beer and my wife finished her glass of wine and it still took several minutes before someone came over to ask us if we'd like to order... I would say it was almost 30 minutes. We were just about ready to leave, but we kept hanging on because the waiter was very friendy. I was a little put off by the lack of respect from the nearby bartender who spoke very loudly and with profanity, including the sh*t word. Now, in a restuarant, does the staff really need to say "sh*t" loudly enough for guests to hear? We ordered the manila clams and a smoked salmon plate. Clams were smothered with celery in a tasty broth, but it was celery overload and not enough onion and garlic - so it was a little odd. I had to chase the waiter down for the garlic bread that was offered and he brought it quickly enough, but it was just another delay. WE noticed that there was around 10 or 11 tables occupied, and our waiter was the only actual waiter with one new assistant. My wife and I had a long 5 or 6 hour drive home, and we wound up spending 90 minutes there for clams and a salmon plate! -- Question: Would I ever go back there? No. Unless Gordan Ramsey spent a week there to fix it up. The view is lovely, and the poor waiter was a friendly guy, he was just overwhelmed with handling all the tables, and I don't think these clams were fresh. We were looking around the Morro Bay area for mussels and couldn't locate it on any menu so we settled for clams at this place. We regret it, but it was not the fault of the waiter. The guy was on his own, and whoever owns this place needs to take some pride in it. Play some nice music for atmospher, and tell the bartender to watch his language. And clean the bathroom.

Local recommendations aren't always good. This is another one of those. I ordered the daily special which is so called, swordfish fillet topped with sesame seeds with mashed potato, sauteed fresh garden greens and oyster mushrooms & a touch of soy sauce. Sounds yummy, isn't it? No, it ended up with a piece of mushy swordfish fillet strengthened by a coat of black-and-white sesame seeds on both sides, a splash of soy sauce, a bed of mashed potato with hidden chucks of wasabi, few pieces of tough carrots & broccoli. My first bite of the fish was a shock. I couldn't taste the fish but wasabi and potato. My tears reacted to it instantly. The restaurant was very generous. It allowed me to pay half of $26 for this dish, and I did pay for my bad luck. Other than these, the architecture of the restaurant is distinguish. I do like the indigenous motif that is used on the beam. If I am not mistaken it is that raven bird that I saw in Vancouver. The view of the harbor is nice too. Oh, the three mega-structures I heard will be taken down soon. To the local people, it will be sad to see them gone, which I understand but they just don't seem to fit into a such serene and natural setting of the beautiful bay.

Walked in around 3:30 PM on 11/10/09. Waited and waited for someone to seat us. Had to finally ask the bartender if they were even open. sure enough, SURPRISE, by the way we were treated. Next, out comes our waitress, who by all means was kind enough, however, she had a band aid on her face, which didn't exactly add to the ambiance. There were tons of flies in the restaurant which was totally unappealing. The meal came out quickly, appeared good enough, and tasted fine. However, it was the uninvited cock roach that totally sent us out the door ASAP. The waitress acknowledged that indeed they had an insect problem, and were going to have the restaurant tented soon. Needless to say, we all lost our appetites, and left during the meal. We were not offered a discount, free meal in the future (even though, I will never return to this establisment) or even a free cup of coffee. What a shame such a beautiful location. Oh, one more thing, the open bar sits in the middle of the restaurant and we were treated to some foul mouthed drunks who had a very limited vocabulary. BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
